Damage to Your Home or Business

Bats are small, warm-blooded, mammals with the unique ability to fly. Despite their reputation, bats are a very important species as they help to balance the ecosystem, feeding on small insects such as moths, beetles and mosquitos. Bats can eat up to three times their body weight in insects each night. Bats can roost in caves and cliffs, but in urban areas they can form roost in the walls of condominiums, homes, attics, buildings and barns. These structures provide bats with a warm, safe place to live. Bat colonies can vary greatly in size, however, they can cause significant building damage and pose serious health risks. We only use 100% proven bat removal techniques.

Bats colonies can start off small and usually go undetected for several seasons before a home/property owner realizes there is need for bat removal services. When bats are left alone their populations can double in size annually. A bat can fit through a hole the size of a dime. If you simply seal off a hole, bats will often find another way in and out. If they are not removed and are left to die in your home or building, they will cause odour and damage.

Bats emit high-pitched squealing sounds, usually at night which can be quite disturbing to homeowners.

Health Risks to Humans

Finding bats in your home or property can raise serious health concerns for the occupants. Bats can bite – this can occur while you are sleeping or if you try to catch them. This can pose a serious health risk if the bat has rabies.

Another health risk to humans comes from the bat droppings. Bat droppings also known as Guano, if inhaled, can cause histoplasmosis, which is characterized by flu-like symptoms. People with weakened immune systems, children and the elderly are at greatest risk for this illness. Cases have been known to cause blindness, lung disease and even death.

Bats are also carriers of bat bugs. Bat bugs are almost identical to bed bugs and need microscopic examination to positively identify them. Bat bugs live and feed on bats and their blood, however they can also live off other warm blooded animals including humans. Bat bugs can become a very serious problem all on their own resulting in additional expenses to homeowners.

Bats are a protected species in Canada as well as other parts of the world. You should only call an experienced bat removal expert if you find bats in your home/property. It is an offence to kill a bat and fines can reach $10,000 per animal. To ensure a humane and economical removal, within the boundaries of the law, our methods involve the removal of the entire bat colony from your home and ensuring that breeding bats and babies are not left behind, a situation that can increase health concerns and costs.
